About James Drew

James DrewWelcome to this website dedicated to the psychotherapy practice of James Drew. James is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas who practices in the Sugar Land/Houston area. He works with adults and adolescents utilizing individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy, or counseling. His academic training includes graduate degrees in both psychology and music. James completed his clinical training working with the severely mentally ill in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Additionally, James has worked for over twenty years as a music educator within the Texas public schools, acquiring extensive experience with adolescents.

James endeavors to assist his counseling clients in cultivating joy, personal freedom, and a realization of their interconnectedness with the world. His theoretical orientation is eclectic, and as such, he has adopted therapeutic techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the Humanistic School of Psychology, and Family Systems Theory. James does utilize Brief Therapy techniques when indicated.

James has a keen interest in how Western psychotherapeutic practices might be integrated with Eastern philosophical and religious traditions. James believes that mindfulness/meditation techniques can supplement personal growth and lead to a more intentional, mindful and joyful life.
